Crooked Cow Path

In business, there are a few references to the cow path. It’s often depicted as the path most tread.

It can be comforting. Doing the same things the same way, every time. Taking the path someone else made for you.

Is it the best way? Maybe. Maybe not.

When I was in process improvement, I was working with someone on a project that was ultimately going to be a process improvement/process automation solution.

Ideally, you fix the process before automating it.

The sponsor of the project said “Don’t pave the crooked cow path”.

I absolutely love that visual.
